Files from Figma plugin
Translate a Figma XLIFF export
Localization plugins export a Figma file's text as XLIFF. Open the export here, translate each layer with a check that it still fits, and export it back to the plugin — free, in your browser.
It opens in the editor in this browser tab. Nothing is uploaded.
Steps
- Export the design's text with your localization plugin. Figma has no XLIFF export of its own; localization plugins add one. Export the frames you need translated as XLIFF.
- Open the file here. Drop it above. Each text layer becomes a segment, and any notes the plugin wrote are shown under Details.
- Translate against the length you have. UI text has to fit its box. The QA length check flags a translation far longer than its source, and a pseudo-translated copy, imported back, shows which layers overflow before anyone translates.
- Export and import back. Choose Export (Ctrl+S) and import the file with the same plugin.
Plugins write XLIFF differently
Some plugins write segment markers without the ids the standard asks for. Files like that used to break whole documents in this editor; they open correctly now, and the markers are written back as they arrived.
Placeholders
Variables such as {name} or %s are kept as text and checked: the placeholder QA check reports any that the translation dropped or changed.
Want the whole file translated for you?
xliff.ai is free and built for people doing the translation themselves. If you would rather hand the Figma file over, Terratra OÜ, the company that makes xliff.ai, translates Figma files and delivers them back as Figma, with the layout adjusted and proofread in every language.
Not yet tested with Figma plugin
We have not run a file through Figma plugin's own import yet. What is tested is the file itself: everything outside the targets you edited comes back byte for byte as it arrived, which is what an importer depends on. If Figma plugin refuses a file from here, please send it to us.
