Files from WPML
Translate a WordPress WPML XLIFF file
WPML sends WordPress pages and posts to translators as XLIFF files. Open one here, translate it with your own memory and glossary, and export it back for WPML to import — free, in your browser.
It opens in the editor in this browser tab. Nothing is uploaded.
Steps
- Export the jobs from WordPress. In WPML's translation management, send the pages or posts to translation and download them as XLIFF files (one per job).
- Open a file here. Drop it above. Each piece of content WPML exported becomes a segment; HTML in it is shown as tags you can move but not lose.
- Translate with your memory and glossary. Load a TMX from earlier work in the Memory panel to pretranslate, and a termbase in the Glossary panel; its terms are underlined in the source and kept for your next visit.
- Export and upload back. Choose Export (Ctrl+S) and upload the file in WPML to complete the job.
HTML and shortcodes
Markup in post content arrives as inline tags. The editor shows every source tag until it is in the target, and the export refuses a target whose tags do not nest — the kind of break that leaves a page half bold.
Word count for the quote
Click the progress in the top bar for a word count with repetitions and memory matches broken out, and download it as CSV for the invoice.
Not yet tested with WPML
We have not run a file through WPML's own import yet. What is tested is the file itself: everything outside the targets you edited comes back byte for byte as it arrived, which is what an importer depends on. If WPML refuses a file from here, please send it to us.
